Puccio Directs Fullerton Past Antelope Valley
Chris Puccio was two for three with two runs batted in and one run scored as Fullerton defeated Antelope Valley, 11-3, in the Golden West Softball Invitational on Friday at Golden West.
Cara Hatt was two for two with a double, a walk, and two runs scored for Fullerton (16-6). The game was called in the fifth inning on the mercy rule.
In an earlier pool-play victory, Puccio was three for four with two RBIs and a run scored as the Indians defeated Mt. San Antonio, 9-1, in five innings. Hatt was three for four with a double, a walk, and two runs scored.
In nonconference women’s tennis:
Grossmont 6, Saddleback 3--Erika Dommeyer defeated Grossmont’s Therisia Victoryna, 6-1, 6-3. Saddleback is 6-3. Grossmont is 8-0.
In Orange Empire conference men’s track and field:
Golden West 84, Cuyamaca 54, Fullerton 41--Brothers Mel and Matt Lete combined to win in five events for Golden West (4-3). Sharaud Moore won the triple jump and the 110 high hurdles for the Rustlers.
Saddleback 84, Riverside 73, Orange Coast 24--Jesse McDonald won the discus (52-6) for Saddleback (7-0), which won the conference dual-meet championship.
McDonald has the longest throw in the state this season (155-6).
Saddleback’s Kojo Arhin remained undefeated by winning the 100 in 11.0. Sean Andrews of Saddleback won the shotput (49-7).
In Orange Empire conference women’s track and field:
Golden West 102, Fullerton 37, Cuyamaca 28--Camille Jacot won the 100 and 200 for Golden West (6-2). Kim Watts won the 100 high hurdles, long jump and javelin and Anne Moore won the 400 and triple jump for the Rustlers.
Saddleback 63, Riverside 58, Orange Coast 54--Toni McDaniels won the 100 and 200 to remain undefeated this season in both events and anchored the 4x100 relay for Saddleback (6-2), which won in 50.1. Marlena Godbolt (Mission Viejo) won the discus (129-1) for Saddleback.
In Orange Empire Conference volleyball:
Golden West 3, El Camino 0--Scott Lane had 24 kills for Golden West, 15-9, 15-10, 15-10. Chris Costy had 14 kills for the Rustlers (10-1, 6-1).
L.A. Pierce 3, Irvine Valley 1--Andy Clifton had 17 kills for Irvine Valley, which lost, 15-9, 15-9, 15-9. Chris Shay had 13 kills for the Lasers (0-6, 0-6).
Golden West 3, El Camino 0--Scott Lane had 24 kills to lead Golden West (6-1, 5-1 in Orange Empire), which won, 15-9, 15-10, 15-10.
