No. 1 Ventura Turns Back Outclassed Hancock, 96-75
Ventura College moved a step closer to a second consecutive state championship with a 96-75 victory over Hancock in the second round of the Southern California Regional on Tuesday night at Ventura College.
The top-ranked Pirates (32-1) face Compton Saturday at Ventura College at a time to be determined.
Sophomore forward Adria Sneed had 30 points and 10 rebounds for Ventura.
Sophomore forward April Garrish added 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Pirates.
Kara Newman, a sophomore guard from Buena High, held Hancock’s leading scorer, Lindsey Seymore, to 14 points. Seymore entered the game averaging just under 25 points this season.
Sophomore guard Cindi Jensen had 15 points and seven assists. Sophomore forward Brianna Kanongata’a had 14 points and freshman guard Lynda Amari had 10 points and seven assists for the Pirates.
Freshman Amirah Leonard, a standout last season at Crescenta Valley, scored six points for Ventura. The Pirates held a 40-27 halftime lead.
Moorpark 83, Harbor 67--The 14th-seeded Raiders (19-11) upset the third-seeded Sea Hawks (22-7) at Harbor.
