Official to Discuss Cal State Campus
J. Handel Evans, president of what would be Ventura County’s first public university, Cal State Channel Islands, will discuss the effort to win state approval for the facility at a Thursday meeting of the Democratic Club of Camarillo.
The university would be established on the grounds of Camarillo State Hospital, which is being closed by the state.
The meeting will start at 7:30 p.m. at Camarillo Library, 3100 Ponderosa Drive.
Born in England, Evans holds degrees in architecture from the University of Manchester in Great Britain and the University of Oregon. He was appointed to oversee the conversion of the Ft. Ord army base into Cal State Monterey Bay in 1995.
