It’s Deja Vu as Nordhoff Beats San Dimas, 71-52

Nordhoff High pulled away in the second quarter en route to a 71-52 victory over Sam Dimas in the Southern Section Division III-A semifinals Saturday night at Buena High.

Last year, the Rangers (23-4) beat San Dimas by six points in the semifinals at Buena. This time, the same game plan--tough defense and rebounding--worked. Nordhoff’s man-to-man defense was especially effective early on and disrupted San Dimas (21-5), which trailed at halftime, 38-24.

“They picked up on us really good,” said Jocilyn Veal, who scored 21 points for San Dimas. “We weren’t ready.”

Nordhoff’s Christen Roper had 21 points, 12 rebounds and five blocked shots. Nell Becker added 15 points and 10 assists.

Nordhoff senior Christy Monteith went down with a twisted right knee in the first quarter and did not return.
