King update--The Kings split a two-game trip Thursday with a 2-0 loss to Calgary after ending a three-game losing streak with a 5-1 victory over Edmonton. Goalie Byron Dafoe has won five of his last six starts and came within 4.4 seconds of recording the second shutout of his career in the Kings’ win over Edmonton. Coach Larry Robinson said that defenseman Rob Blake is playing his best hockey after Blake moved into 20th on the Kings’ all-time scoring list with 221 points. Forward Dimitri Khristich scored two goals and added an assist in the Kings’ 4-2 victory over Chicago earlier this month. The Kings, who are in fourth place in the Western Conference, have given up only one power-play goal in their last three games (13 of 14).

Blackhawk update--In their last game against the Kings, the Blackhawks not only lost, 4-2, but were roughed up physically. Chicago took offense to a hard check by the Kings’ Ian Laperriere on Denis Savard that led to a fight-marred third period. Bob Probert and Jim Cummins accounted for 52 penalty minutes for their roles and each team was fined $5,000 by the league. This will be the last game of a six-game trip for the Blackhawks, who lost to the Mighty Ducks in Anaheim on Friday.
