In other Valley Pac-8 Conference games:
Sylmar 27, Grant 14--Donald Carpenter scored on an eight-yard run with 3:51 remaining to secure the victory for the host Spartans (6-2, 5-0).
The score was set up by Joey La Porta’s interception of a Lawrence Monroy pass four plays earlier.
Carpenter finished with 79 yards in 16 carries, and also scored on a three-yard run on Sylmar’s first possession.
Sylmar’s Chris Cervantes threw two touchdown passes--a 24-yard strike to Jose Ochoa early in the second quarter and a 16-yard pass play to Shaun Avalos just before halftime that put Sylmar up, 20-8, at intermission.
Grant (2-6, 1-4) was led by Lewis Escamilla, who scored on a 30-yard hook-and-ladder pass play in the second quarter. Escamilla also scored on a 10-yard run in the third quarter.
Chavez had five receptions for 64 yards.
