Transportation Panel Backs 4 Projects
Four projects designed to promote tourism in west Ventura County and the Santa Clara Valley received financial backing Friday from the Ventura County Transportation Commission.
The commission approved a staff recommendation to divide about $700,000 in state transportation grants that are expected next year.
Commissioners voted to award $150,000 to Oxnard, which plans to build a long-term parking facility at the Oxnard Transportation Center.
They also approved $100,000 to pay for a 1,400-foot railroad track extension into downtown Piru and $250,000 for improvements to the train depot in Santa Paula.
Another $200,000 was designated for a transit center at the Buenaventura Mall in Ventura, where a massive expansion and renovation is planned.
County transportation officials expect between $580,000 and $872,000 under the state transit program. The grants will be awarded early next year by the California Transportation Commission.
