Warfield’s Four Touchdowns Lead El Dorado
PLACENTIA — Junior running back Steven Warfield rushed for 234 yards in 35 carries and scored four touchdowns to lead El Dorado to a 27-14 Empire League victory over Loara Friday night at Valencia High.
Warfield’s second touchdown of the night came two plays after Loara punter Vince Vaccaro kicked a low line drive into El Dorado defender Tim Fairfield, who blocked it. Two plays later, Warfield scored on a 35-yard run to give the Golden Hawks a 14-7 lead with 7 minutes 54 seconds remaining in the third quarter.
Loara tied it at 14-14 when running back John Duhon scored on a nine-yard run with more than six minutes left in the third quarter.
On their next possession, the Golden Hawks drove 74 yards in 13 plays, taking nearly seven minutes off the clock. Warfield scored his third touchdown two plays into the fourth quarter on a six-yard run with 11:10 left.
Following an interception of an Archie Lappin pass by El Dorado’s Ben Sanders, who returned the ball to the Saxon 24-yard line, Warfield capped his evening with a seven-yard touchdown run with less than 8 minutes left to play.
Loara (3-3, 0-1 in league) took a 7-0 lead when Lappin connected on a 72-yard scoring pass to Jay Marchano-Simons. El Dorado (1-5, 1-0) tied the score at 7-7 with eight minutes remaining in the half as Warfield ran into the end zone from 16 yards.
