Padre update--The Padres have won 21 of their last 29 games and 13 of their last 17 at home. Although Tony Gwynn and Ken Caminiti get most of the recognition, center fielder Steve Finley hit three home runs in four games against the Dodgers and is batting .335 over his last 81 games. Catcher John Flaherty, who sprained an ankle Saturday and did not play Sunday, is listed as day to day.
Rocky update--The Rockies remain a disaster on the road. They are 26-53 and coming off four consecutive losses to the San Francisco Giants in which they scored only 10 runs. Outfielder Ellis Burks said that losing four in a row to the Giants “tells you just how bad we are on the road.” Burks is batting .339 compared to National League leader Mike Piazza’s .344.
