San Diego Beats UCI in Women’s Soccer
The UC Irvine women’s soccer team could not mount any offense Wednesday against unbeaten San Diego, which handed the Anteaters their first loss of the season, 2-0.
Michele Kennedy scored in the first 10 minutes for San Diego, which is ranked third in the West Region. Dorie Flynn scored San Diego’s second goal at the 72-minute mark.
Goalie Stephanie Boes had nine saves for UC Irvine (4-1-1), which is ranked seventh in the West Region. San Diego is 3-0.
The Anteaters will host San Luis Obispo in a Big West Conference game at 3 p.m. Sunday at UC Irvine.
In nonconference women’s volleyball:
Chapman 3, Occidental 2--The Panthers opened their season by defeating visiting Occidental, 11-15, 21-19, 15-2, 11-15, 15-11.
Shanna Parkinson had 20 kills to lead Chapman (1-0) and teammate Addie Bernard had 10 kills.
Occidental is 0-1.
In nonconference men’s soccer:
Cal State San Bernardino 2, Southern California College 0--Visiting Southern California College had managed to get off 10 shots but could not score against San Bernardino.
