Disaster Response Team to Discuss Safety
Representatives of the Las Virgenes Municipal Water District will discuss emergency safety procedures tonight with the Westlake Village Disaster Response Team, including what would happen in the event of a dam failure.
District officials will speak about dam safety and water and sewer system operations at the team’s general quarterly meeting at 7 tonight in the City Council chambers, 4373 Park Terrace Drive.
Mike Mathews, assistant to the city manager, said the disaster response team is concerned about issues of general safety.
“Westlake Village is downstream of four different dams and the Westlake Reservoir is one that is under the control of the water district,” he said. “They will talk about their emergency procedures and all of their safety processes.”
The disaster response team is composed of residents who train in emergency response techniques. The members educate the community on what to do in an emergency and are charged with establishing a backup communication system for the city.
