City to Increase Restricted Parking
Oxnard drivers soon will have 300 more restricted parking signs to contend with.
The Oxnard City Council on Tuesday unanimously approved a pilot program coordinated by the Police Department and the city to make street sweeping easier on crowded streets.
Using $40,000 from a waste water collection fund, officials say they intend to place the restricted parking signs throughout the city. The added signs will probably mean more parking tickets will be issued to motorists who do not read the signs carefully.
The program is part of an effort to clean up streets and prevent garbage from spilling into sewers, city officials said.
“We’ve been gradually increasing the signs,” City Manager Tom Frutchey said. “The streets get so full of leaves and oil that the next time we get rain, it washes into the storm system.”
