As Dodgers Stand Pat, They Can’t Stand Fred
How ‘bout that Fred Claire, huh? There’s a guy who knows how to make the shrewd late-season acquisition. Let’s see, last year it was Kevin Tapani. This season, he was able to steal Chad Curtis away from the Tigers, despite the offers Detroit was fielding from all the other teams frantically pursuing him.
Meanwhile, Claire is savvy enough to avoid going after a nobody like Denny Neagle. I mean, why would the Dodgers want to add a quality left-handed starter to their rotation. Let the Braves pick up that slouch.
Who needs the World Series, anyway? It would only take attention away from the local pro football teams.

First the Padres sign Greg Vaughn. Now the Braves sign Neagle. Please, someone tell Fred Claire it’s within the rules of baseball to improve your team during the course of the season.

Thirty games left in the season. The Dodgers in a pennant race. Brothers pitching against each other for the first time in the major leagues in more than eight years. What does KTLA show? “Blossom” and “Full House.” Nice going. Thank God for KABC and Vin Scully.
