Games Get Taste of Valley Ball
More than 100 athletes from the Valley are competing for Los Angeles in the Maccabi Youth Games in Newark, N.J. The following are highlights from action Monday:
BASEBALL
Adam Petrocelli of Crespi High had three hits and Buzz Buyer of Royal added two in a 13-2 victory over Baltimore in a 13-14 age-group game. Spencer Gordon of Chaminade was the winning pitcher.
Adam Siegel of Harvard-Westlake knocked in six runs in a 17-6 rout of Toronto in a 15-16 game.
BASKETBALL
The 15-16 girls split, losing to Chicago, 46-35, and beating Sephardic-Brooklyn, 57-36. Brooke Porter of Harvard-Westlake scored 14 points against Chicago. Stephanie Glucksman of Oakwood had 17 points against Brooklyn.
In a boys’ 15-16 game, Randy Gastwirt of Oak Park had 20 points in a 44-27 victory over Mid Westchester.
SOCCER
Ronny Zavlodaver and Guy Friedman of Agoura Hills, Jon Barry of Harvard-Westlake and Dan Sable of Sherman Oaks scored in a 4-0 victory over Miami in a boys’ 15-16 game.
SOFTBALL
Jamie Gelbart and Sara Kopple were the winning pitchers over Chicago and Sid Jacobson (N.Y.).
SWIMMING
Sara Clark of Granada Hills won the 15-16 400-yard individual medley. Ryan Parmenter of Hart won the 15-16 400 individual medley and 100 freestyle.
TENNIS
Nick Weiss of Calabasas and Matt Parker of Tarzana each went 3-0 in 13-14 competition.
