My favorite moment occurred on a steamy MARTA subway, watching an Atlanta policewoman joke with two perspiring fencing judges in suits and ties, one from Russia, the other from Belarus. It’s amazing how, in spite of everything, people really want to like each other. There really is an Olympic spirit that can never die, which is fortunate because if it could, these commercially drunk Games would have killed it dead as Moses.
