It’s hard to believe there’s still an interest in these bands from the ‘70s (“Return of the Dinosaurs,” by Robert Hilburn and Jerry Crowe, June 23). Let’s face it: KISS was nothing more than a silly cartoon act--basically the Archies of heavy metal. And Styx was one of the most insipid and boring of that decade’s many faceless pop groups.

As for the Sex Pistols, their punk energy and attitude were a welcome shot in the arm for rock ‘n’ roll, but it remains to be seen if these aging blokes can really recapture that spirit 20 years down the line.

I guess I’ll have to read all about it in Calendar. I’m saving my money for the next Stones tour.

Except for a couple of borderline groups, bands of the ‘90s have been lousy. Grunge rock is what disco was to the ‘70s, a disease to the eardrum. My high school years in the ‘70s were the peak in rock.

Excuse me, I’ve got a Zep album to turn over.
