Some consumers prefer fee-only planners because they can be certain that the planner has no vested interest in selling a particular product. However, only about 10% of planners are fee-only, so the National Assn. of Personal Financial Advisors launched a toll-free referral line to help people find one: (888) 333-6659. Meanwhile, the Certified Planner Board has launched a toll-free number for checking a planner’s credentials or to lodge complaints: (888) 237-6275.
