Hazardous Waste Disposal Available
Oxnard is taking appointments for residents to dispose of their household hazardous waste at an east Oxnard site Saturday.
The city will accept many items found in a typical garage such as pesticides, motor oil, solvents, batteries and oil-based paints.
The event will take place from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at an Oxnard business that will be disclosed when residents call 385-8084 to schedule an appointment.
Residents from El Rio, Nyeland Acres and Channel Islands Harbor beach communities can also drop off their hazardous waste. Callers will be asked to schedule more than one drop-off if their load exceeds five gallons or 50 pounds.
“The reason is that you are considered a hazardous household waste hauler,” said Jay Duncan, Oxnard’s recycling specialist. “There is a limit of the amount of the material that someone can bring in.”
Duncan said the Household Hazardous Waste Roundup will also feature a public education booth on hazardous waste.
The disposal site will not accept business, radioactive or biomedical waste. Items the site will not take also include explosives, ammunition, mercury, smoke detectors, tires and compressed-gas cylinders.
