Cable Competitor Sues Time Warner for $1 Billion: Time Warner Inc. has been sued by Liberty Cable Co. for allegedly using its muscle to hurt competition, an accusation that comes as it seeks regulatory approval to buy Turner Broadcasting System Inc. Liberty, which is owned by Peter Kiewit & Sons Inc. and Bartholdi Cable Co., alleges among other things that Time Warner illegally denied it access to programming. Time Warner spokesman Edward Adler said the suit is “totally without foundation.” Liberty has about 30,000 subscribers in New York City and New Jersey. Its suit comes as Time Warner seeks federal approval of its $7.5-billion purchase of Turner. The suit seeks $1 billion.
