2 Workers Hurt in Shootout at Jewelry Store
SUN VALLEY — Two jewelry-store employees suffered minor injuries Sunday when an attempted robbery triggered a shootout between a third employee and the would-be holdup men.
Three robbers, one armed with a handgun, entered Sun Valley Discount Jewelers just after 3 p.m., according to Det. Gordon Hagge of the Los Angeles Police Department. One of three employees working at the store pulled out a handgun and a shootout ensued.
One suspect was believed to have been wounded in the incident, and a trail of blood spots could be seen on the sidewalk outside the small shop in the 8000 block of Vineland Avenue. The trio fled in a white car, according to Hagge.
A 20-year-old female employee and a 34-year-old male co-worker, whose identities were not given, were treated at local hospitals and released.
