Longtime Ventura resident Anthony Corrente died Sunday at his home. He was 76.

Born in Providence, R.I., on Sept. 26, 1919, Corrente served in the Army during World War II. During the war, he was stationed at Fort Devins, Mass., and in Key West, Fla.

A retired glazer with the West Warwick Glass Co., Corrente moved to Ventura with his wife, Madeleine, in 1968.

For years he also worked fashioning sheet metal to help build such things as mobile homes, according to his son, Douglas.

He liked to work with stained glass, fix lawn mowers and play bingo in his spare time, his son said.

“He was just a plain and simple man,” Douglas Corrente said. “He never did anything real extravagant. He had a simple life.”

Corrente is survived by Madeleine, his wife of 54 years; son Douglas, and daughter Carol Mercer, both of Las Vegas; sisters Nancy Cole of Apple Valley and Carmella Roemer of Ventura; grandson Christopher Anthony Corrente, and two great grandchildren.
