NAACP Honors Flagstar Corp. Executive
Flagstar Corp. Chairman and Chief Executive Officer James B. Adamson has been awarded the 1996 Corporate CEO Achievement Award by the National Assn. for the Advancement of Colored People.
The award is of interest in Southern California because Flagstar is the Spartanburg, S.C.-based parent company of the Denny’s chain, which in 1994 announced a $54.4-million discrimination settlement with U.S. government officials. The painful chapter in Denny’s history included allegations of racist actions at Denny’s restaurants in Costa Mesa, Orange and Yorba Linda.
NAACP President and Chief Executive Kweisi Mfume said that Adamson “has consistently demonstrated his commitment to diversity throughout his career.”
Flagstar also owns the Irvine-based El Pollo Loco chain and is buying the Coco’s and Carrows chains from Irvine-based Family Restaurants Group.
