South Coast League Champion Capistrano Valley Seeded Second
Capistrano Valley was seeded second in Division I Monday when the draws for the Southern Section boys’ volleyball tournament were announced.
Capistrano Valley, 15-1 overall and South Coast League champion with a 10-0 record, will host University (8-8, 6-4 and third place in Pacific Coast League) in the first round at 7 p.m. Friday.
Other Division I first-round matches at 7 p.m. Friday include: Irvine (8-8) at top-seeded Manhattan Beach Mira Costa (17-0); Edison (7-8) at North Torrance (16-0); San Clemente (12-6) at Aliso Niguel (13-5); South Torrance (8-6) at Santa Margarita (15-2); Mission Viejo (9-9) at Esperanza (14-2); Newport Harbor (9-6) at Laguna Beach (13-2); Palos Verdes Peninsula (11-5) at Huntington Beach (15-1) and Redondo Union (11-3) at Corona del Mar (9-5).
In Division II, wild-card matches at 7 p.m. Wednesday include: Upland (10-5) at Villa Park (4-12) and Ocean View (10-5) at El Dorado (13-5). First-round matches in Division II will be held at 7 p.m. Friday.
In Division III, first-round matches at 7 p.m. Friday include: Orangewood Academy (13-5) at Bellflower St. John Bosco (12-2); St. Margaret’s (8-7) at Torrance Bishop Montgomery (11-0) and Playa del Rey St. Bernard (4-10) at Capistrano Valley Christian (15-1).

In the Southern Section individual badminton tournament, mixed doubles will be held Friday at Cypress College beginning at 3 p.m. Boys’ and girls’ doubles and boys’ and girls’ singles will be held Saturday at Cypress College beginning at 1 p.m. Division I and II team competition begins May 14.
