Westside : ROAD CLOSURE
Kanan Dume Road in Malibu may remain closed for a month or longer after a landslide last week that blocked the roadway three miles north of Pacific Coast Highway, transit officials said.
Rocks and debris continue to roll down onto the canyon road, covered last Friday by a dirt slide estimated to be about 200 feet high and 150 feet wide, said Donna Guyovich, spokeswoman for Los Angeles County Department of Public Works.
Engineers are trying to determine how to get the loose material down from the mountainside and clean up the roadway, she said.
It may take a month or longer to develop and execute a plan that would reopen the road, Guyovich added.
The mountainous road is one of three thoroughfares between Malibu and the San Fernando Valley.
Repaving work on Malibu Canyon, an alternate route to the Valley, was temporarily suspended until Kanan Dume reopens, Guyovich said.
