BASEBALL DAILY REPORT : Davenport Rejoins Giants
Former San Francisco manager Jim Davenport was named the Giants’ first base coach, becoming the third person to hold that job since last season.
Davenport replaces Bob Brenly, who resigned to become a baseball game analyst for Fox Sports. Brenly had replaced Bobby Bonds, the Giants’ batting coach, who was moved to the dugout.
Davenport, 62, was a member of the original San Francisco Giants in 1958 and one of baseball’s top third basemen during a 13-year major-league career. He went 56-88 in 1985 as Giant manager before being fired late in the season.
