Kilauea Jazz Band to Play Radio Benefit

The popular jazz band Kilauea will be performing at the Civic Arts Plaza in Thousand Oaks on Saturday to help raise funds for the county’s only public radio station.

After releasing four albums that each reached the Top 5 on Billboard’s contemporary jazz charts, the group last year released “Diamond Collection,” a compilation of the band’s most popular instrumental tunes. The band will play for two hours with an open coffee bar during a half-hour intermission.

Proceeds from the concert will go to KCLU-FM (88.3), the only National Public Radio affiliate based in Ventura County. The station broadcasts from Cal Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks.

“This is a great opportunity to see a top recording band in our own backyard,” said Mary Olson, KCLU’s marketing director. “And there are still great seats available.”

Two of Kilauea’s albums, “Antigua Blue” and “Tropical Pleasures,” have held the No. 1 spot on the charts.

“Teresa’s Confessions,” one of the most frequently played tracks on contemporary jazz radio, was written by Daniel Ho, the band’s Hawaiian-born composer-keyboardist and leader.

Tickets for the concert, which starts at 7:30 p.m., are priced at $40 and $50. They may be purchased by calling KCLU at 493-3900 or in person at the Civic Arts Plaza box office. They are also being sold by Ticketmaster.
