3 Amtrak Cars Derail; None Aboard Injured
CRESTVIEW, Fla. — Three rail cars from an Amtrak “Sunset Limited” train derailed early Monday in Florida’s panhandle, but none of the 150 passengers on board were injured, officials said.
The derailment occurred about 2 a.m. EST outside this small town near Pensacola.
Passengers on the train, which runs from Jacksonville to Los Angeles, said they were startled when a sleeper, dining and club car left the tracks but remained upright.
Officials at the scene said it was too early to speculate about the cause of the accident. National Transportation Safety Board investigators were en route to the scene to investigate.
