Johnson’s Return Gets Bell-Jeff Easy Victory
The Bell-Jeff High girls’ basketball team won easily Tuesday night, posting an 80-27 Camino Real League victory over Mary Star of the Sea at Mary Star.
More important to the Guards, however, was the return of star player Jaclyn Johnson, who started and played six minutes.
Johnson, who averages 22.3 points and 14.3 rebounds, had missed the team’s previous 15 games because of a stress fracture in her right shin. She had seven points, five rebounds and six assists in her brief appearance.
Four players scored in double figures for the Guards (17-5, 4-2 in league play), including Stacey Cobb with 15 points and Cheryl Flores with 14.
Palmdale 61, Littlerock 27--Kristi Rose scored 12 points and had 10 rebounds for the host Falcons (20-3, 7-0) in a Golden League game.
Simi Valley 89, Agoura 55--Tawnee Cooper scored 14 of her 31 points in the first quarter for the visiting Pioneers in a Marmonte League game.
Jamie Griffin, returning after missing one game with a thumb injury, scored 20 points for Simi Valley (21-2, 10-1).
Thousand Oaks 92, Royal 50--Jenn Detmer scored 25 points and Nicole Woodruff added 15 for the Lancers (19-5, 10-1) in a Marmonte League game at home.
Buena 58, Rio Mesa 38--Nicole Greathouse’s 18 points and 15 rebounds led the Bulldogs (20-0, 11-0) in a Channel League game at Rio Mesa. Kori Sebek added 11 points. Buena held Rio Mesa (6-4, 13-7) to just four points in the second quarter.
Moorpark 73, Calabasas 28--Damaris Hinojosa had 21 points and 10 rebounds for the host Musketeers (19-0, 7-0) against Calabasas (11-7, 4-3) in a Frontier League game. Tracey Milburn added 19 points and nine assists.
BOYS’ BASKETBALL
Highland 64, Quartz Hill 42--John Burrell scored 25 points for the host Bulldogs (13-9, 6-1) in a Golden League game. Nick Howell added eight points and four blocked shots.
Santa Clara 50, Nordhoff 39--Adam Lopez and Lukman Dotson each scored 12 points as the Saints (17-4, 7-0) beat the Rangers (8-14, 2-5) in a Frontier League game at Nordhoff. Herb Thornton had 17 for Nordhoff.
Moorpark 73, Calabasas 55--Pat Tate scored 20 points for the host Musketeers (15-9, 6-1) in a Frontier League game. Brendon Hansen added 19. Ryan Coleman had 20 points for Calabasas (12-9, 3-4).
