Golden Teams to Play in Las Vegas
Highland and Littlerock highs have added football games against Las Vegas teams to replace Ridgecrest Burroughs on their 1996 schedules. Burroughs will drop out of the Golden League to join the new Mojave River League.
Highland will play Silverado, and Littlerock will face Valley on Sept. 6 in Las Vegas. Palmdale also is considering a game in Las Vegas.
Quartz Hill will play Lompoc and Antelope Valley will face Sylmar.
Channel Islands lineman Blane Saipaia, a two-time Times’ All-Ventura County selection, has made a commitment to Colorado State. Saipaia (6 feet 3, 275 pounds), who scored 1,010 on the Scholastic Assessment Test, can play offense or defense.
Softball
Saugus High pitcher Jamie Gillies, 18-5 last season, has committed to Michigan. Gillies also considered Boston University, Indiana, Utah State and Wichita State.
