Marina’s 61-Game Unbeaten Streak in Soccer Ends
HUNTINGTON BEACH — The Marina girls’ soccer team’s 61-game unbeaten streak ended Tuesday in a season-opening, 2-1, loss to visiting Palos Verdes Peninsula.
The Vikings finished 21-0-1 last season, winning their third consecutive Southern Section Division I title. Eight players graduated from that team, including Marcy Crouch, the Southern Section’s defensive player of the year.
Two-year starters Megan Orach (injury) and Ann Giallonardo (illness) missed Tuesday’s game, which was Jorge Valenzuela’s first as Marina’s coach. He replaced Bobby Bruch, who resigned after four seasons.
