Obituaries : * Harry Roach; Computer Scientist
Harry Roach, a computer scientist and avid motorcyclist, died at his home in Oak View after a long illness.
Roach was born June 12, 1937, in Detroit. He moved around the West for many years with his family before settling in Ventura County 20 years ago. Roach met his wife, Joni, when the two were neighbors on Silver Strand Beach. The couple have lived in Oak View for 15 years.
Roach, 58, was a computer scientist for Computer Sciences Corp. He was a member of the American Legion, Oak View Post No. 686. But his greatest love was motorcycles, Joni Roach said.
“I didn’t know much about them, but that all changed,” she added.
The couple would take road trips on his Harley-Davidson. He also was active in the motorcycle group American Brotherhood Aimed Toward Education (ABATE).
In addition to his wife, Roach is survived by two daughters, Lisa Hunstiger of Oak View and Eileen Roach of Ojai; two sons, Ron Roach of Los Osos and Kevin Paul of Oklahoma, and two grandsons.
A memorial celebration will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Soule Park in Ojai. Following cremation, Roach’s ashes will be inurned in Oak View. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Clausen Funeral Home.
