Christian Values
* Re “Voices of 3 Africans in the Time of AIDS,” Nov. 18:
An admirable born-again Christian, a nurse in Kenya, directs a self-help program for women with AIDS and maintains an orphanage for the children of those who die of this disease.
I am sure that in this country there are Christian fundamentalists similarly noble and helpful in their concern for people in tragic situations. Unfortunately the headlines are ablaze with stories of a blatant and unknowing minority of the Christian right, shooting doctors and harassing troubled women in a less than Christian manner for an unrealistic and probably unsolvable cause.
One could wish that those who call themselves Christians could live their values rather than attempt to force them on others; the word Christian may then connote virtue.
