Homosexual Gene
* While there is little doubt in my mind that biology is the primary factor in determining a person’s sexual orientation (Oct. 31), I doubt that this knowledge will do much to eradicate the persecution of homosexuals. I would imagine that those who despise lesbians and gay men will perceive this fact of life as a birth defect and continue to torment them with self-righteous attitudes, ostracism and oppressive laws.
And although I find this research fascinating, I would be even more interested in learning what predisposes so many people toward notions of supremacy. Is there a mean gene? Like the infinite world of science, the immense fear and hatred of those who are different never cease to astonish me.
