County Home Sales Continuing to Lag

On par with much of the rest of Southern California, home sales in Ventura County continued to lag in the third quarter of 1995, dropping more than 14% compared with last year, according to analysts monitoring the market.

A total of 2,301 homes were sold in the county between July and September of this year--384 fewer than last year, according to TRW-REDI Property Data.

The figures, which are based on recorded deeds, also show that Southern California saw a 10% drop in home sales during that same period, with the worst declines experienced in Orange County.

The typical sale price of homes in Ventura County also declined slightly, with the average home fetching about $230,000, a decline of 1.2%.

TRW-REDI has attributed this year’s sluggish home sales, in part, to a lack of confidence in the job market.
