Tom Christensen scored 13 goals as the Palm Springs water polo team defeated La Quinta, 24-8, last Thursday. . . . Lorena Reyes of Indio set a course record of 20:55 in a 15-49 cross-country victory over Palm Springs at Los Compadres stables last week. Her winning time of 20:06 also led Indio to a 23-34 victory over Coachella Valley. . . . West Shores’ football game against Bundy Christian was stopped with 6:40 to play after West Shores took a 53-7 lead, which invokes the Metro League’s “mercy rule” of 45 points. . . . Coachella Valley lost 20 consecutive football games before beating Calexico, 25-24, two weeks ago. The Arabs then beat La Quinta, 20-7, for their first home victory since September 25, 1993. . . . Indio defensive lineman and kicker Jerry Zendejas sometimes gets more attention for his last name than his work on the field. He is the cousin of the Zendejas brothers (Luis, Tony and Max), who all played in the NFL. Jerry, a 5-foot-9, 240-pound sophomore, has not missed an extra point this season and made one of his two field-goal attempts.
