Crescenta Valley Facing Forfeitures : Football: Falcons may be stripped of three nonleague victories if Southern Section deems transfer Oshin Honarchian was ineligible.

The Crescenta Valley High football team might be forced to forfeit three nonleague victories for using an ineligible player.

Senior tackle Oshin Honarchian, who transferred from Hoover last summer, might have been ineligible earlier this season but is eligible now, Athletic Director Bob Canfield said.

Honarchian’s eligibility recently came into question and school administrators reported the matter to the Southern Section office. Bill Clark, the section’s administrator in charge of football, said the office has yet to receive correspondence from Crescenta Valley.

“If we [are in violation], then we’ll probably have to forfeit,” Canfield said.

Crescenta Valley’s 7-6 Pacific League victory over Glendale last Friday night in which Honarchian played will not be affected, Canfield said. Honarchian played in the Falcons’ first four games before sitting out while his eligibility was in question. The Falcons are 5-1, 1-0 in league play.

Honarchian, 6-foot-5, 250 pounds and rated among the league’s top linemen, moved from his mother’s house in the Hoover attendance area this summer to his father’s house in Crescenta Valley’s attendance area. His parents are divorced.

According to Southern Section rules, a player’s eligibility is established at one residence when the player is a freshman.

“Whenever a kid is living with both parents and they separate, the kid has continuing eligibility where he first lived,” Clark said.

Clark declined to speculate whether Crescenta Valley committed any violation.

Honarchian’s mother recently moved within the Crescenta Valley attendance area, Canfield said.
