A plan to build 171 single-family homes on a 38-acre parcel has won unanimous City Council approval.

Although the plan calls for 25 more units than originally proposed for the site, it still falls within the limits set by the East Tustin Specific Plan, officials said.

In 1991, the council approved construction of 146 homes at the site, bordered by Pioneer Road and Peters Canyon Road, but Lewis Homes of California redesigned the plan and requested an increase in housing units.

The homes will be about 29,500 square feet on 45- to 50-square-foot lots, with an overall density of about 4.5 homes an acre for the entire parcel, officials said.

During a public hearing before Monday’s vote, two residents who live near the project objected to the increase in housing units.

Lewis Homes, an Upland-based company, is Southern California’s fourth-largest home builder, with estimated sales of $250 million this year.
