A growing number of airports in the United States and Canada are becoming smoke-free, according to a survey.

The North American Airports Council said its survey showed the restrictive smoking policies were receiving a favorable public response. It said that of the 59 airports responding to its survey, made in conjunction with the anti-smoking group Coalition on Smoking OR Health, 18 were completely smoke-free, up from five reported in the previous survey two years ago.

The council also said 55 airports responding reported having a policy that restricted smoking to specified areas, up from 53 two years ago.
