Fund-Raising Party Will Benefit Children

Actor Edward James Olmos is scheduled to speak Sept. 8 at a dinner-dance honoring the 15th anniversary of Child Development Resources of Ventura County Inc. and the 30th anniversary of the county’s Head Start Program.

Olmos, who is also a community activist, serves as an ambassador to UNICEF and speaks at schools and juvenile institutions around the country. He was involved in the clean-up efforts after the Los Angeles riots and Hurricane Andrew in Florida. Olmos is also an Emmy and Golden Globe awards winner.

The anniversary celebration is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Doubletree Hotel, 2055 E. Harbor Blvd., Ventura. In addition to Olmos’ presentation, there will be dancing, a magician and a caricaturist.

A silent auction also will be held to benefit Child Development Resources. The silent auction will feature a one week’s stay at a condo in Maui, Hawaii, two American Airline tickets to anywhere in the continental United States and other donated items.

Child Development Resources was incorporated in 1980 to administer Project Head Start and the Child Care Resource and Referral Program in this area.
