Calling L.A. names:

The KMPC radio duo of Peter Tilden and Tracey Miller told Mayor Richard Riordan on Friday that they harbored no hard feelings over the rejection of their suggestion for the city’s official slogan--”L.A.: The Gang’s All Here!”

Or any of their alternate proposals, such as: “L.A.: Home of Bald Men With Ponytails.” and “L.A.: The Other Silicon Valley.”

The last was a punning reference to “all the breast implants here,” Tilden explained during a telephone interview with His Honor.

The mayor has been swamped with suggestions since it was revealed that the city was starting a new ad campaign. Always helpful David Letterman submitted: “L.A.: Come Sequester Yourself!”

But Riordan prefers the somewhat less colorful sentiment displayed on City Hall: “Together We’re the Best. L.A.”

The mayor did mention to the KMPC team that he has come up with an alternative theme, relating to the departure of one company--”L.A.: The City That Doesn’t Have Al Davis.”

WE ALWAYS WONDERED WHAT THE DIFFERENT COLORS MEANT: Paul Cockerill of Toluca Lake snapped today’s photo at a Hollywood Freeway on-ramp and added the comment, “And you thought it was tough for some people to program a VCR!”

MICKEY’S URBAN FOLK TALES: For years, there have been rumors of mischievous animators sneaking raunchy scenes into Disney kids’ movies.

Just the other day, a company spokesman denied one tale that has the title character of “Aladdin” making an off-camera joke about Princess Jasmine taking off her clothes. In fact, the spokesman said, the honorable street rat is actually telling Jasmine’s tiger, Rajah, to “take off and go.”

Then there’s the illustration on the videotape case for “The Little Mermaid,” which shows an underwater palace with tiny turrets that have a phallic quality. They were allegedly the work of a disgruntled animator who was leaving the company.

A G-rated tale, which turns out to be true, concerns the scene in “The Beauty and the Beast” in which Belle’s father, crazy old Maurice, is lost on horseback in the forest. For a split second, he confronts a sign at a crossroads that identifies one road leading to Newhall, the other to Valencia.

WE’RE NO. 94! That could be another L.A. slogan. Not only is the City of Angels ranked in that lowly position in Money Magazine’s 1995 “Best Places” survey, it has also been snubbed by Australia.

Marjore Chronister of West L.A. reports that a hotel telephone directory in Brisbane contained the area codes for Burbank, Hollywood, San Fernando and Pomona. But none for L.A.

If it’s any consolation to Angelenos, Newhall and Valencia were also snubbed.
