South Bay : HISTORIC TRANSITION
Two small buildings once used as living quarters for the crew of San Pedro’s 70-year-old Ralph J. Scott fireboat, a national landmark, will now be making history of a different sort.
The rectangular buildings at Berth 85 have been donated to the adjacent Los Angeles Maritime Museum, which chronicles the history of seafaring in Los Angeles.
The structures will be used to teach classes in assembling model ships and small seaworthy boats.
Crew members no longer needed the buildings after a $12-million wharf-side fire station was completed in the spring.
