Man Charged in ATM Worker Death
ORANGE — A paroled bank robber was charged Wednesday with murdering former police officer and ATM technician Robert T. Walsh, who disappeared from his bank route and was later found dead in his charred car.
Bill Charles Poynor, 50, was arrested in an Anaheim motel on a federal parole violation late last month.
Investigators said similarities between Poynor and the man suspected of killing Walsh, 58, led them to Poynor and witnesses later identified him.
The body of Walsh, who worked for Wells Fargo Armored Service Corp. as an ATM serviceman, was found in his torched car in Orange on Easter Sunday, April 16.
Walsh died of a gunshot to the head. Police believe that at least $13,000 collected on Walsh’s rounds was stolen.
Poynor also goes by the names Bill Silver and Irving Silver. He is suspected of about two dozen robberies here and in Arizona.
