Today’s Huntington Beach city limits include areas that were once other towns and communities dating to the late 1800s.

One of them was Wintersburg, which was founded in 1897. Primarily a farm settlement and railroad siding, Wintersburg was near the present-day intersection of Warner Avenue and Golden West Street.

Another former community was Smeltzer, founded in 1894. When Smeltzer was launched, it was a rail siding in peat lands.
