Poll Finds Broad Support for Plan to Boost Police, Library Services
Mayor Richard Riordan’s plans to increase police and library services in the next fiscal year have received broad support in the 8th City Council District, according to a recent survey.
Nearly three-fourths of 267 randomly sampled residents in the district represented by Los Angeles City Councilman Mark Ridley-Thomas oppose any decrease in the hiring of officers and a similar percentage opposes any reduction in library hours.
The surveys were conducted by a private firm for Ridley-Thomas.
Many of the findings in the surveys coincide with provisions in Riordan’s $3.9-billion budget for the fiscal year beginning in June.
The spending plan received tentative council approval last week and is expected to receive formal approval Monday.
