Santa Ana : Truck Crash Causes Spill, Evacuation
An overturned truck that spilled gas and liquid oxygen Monday prompted an evacuation and snarled traffic for about two hours, fire officials said.
About 5:40 p.m., a truck carrying liquid oxygen cylinders failed to make a turn from South Fairview Street onto Central Avenue and rolled over, trapping three containers under it and creating a potentially explosive situation, Fire Capt. Jim Napolitano said.
Firefighters cleared about 20 people from an area about the size of a city block and called in additional rescue workers, who used an air bag to safely lift the truck off the cylinders, Napolitano said.
The truck driver suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene, he said. No other injuries were reported.
