JC BASEBALL ROUNDUP : Moorpark Trounces Santa Barbara
Trevor Leppard of Moorpark College pitched a four-hitter and struck out 11 in an 11-1 Western State Conference victory over Santa Barbara on Saturday at Moorpark.
Britten Pond, who graduated with Leppard from Simi Valley High in 1993, had two hits and drove in two runs. Jason Adamson added two hits and a run batted in.
Hancock 16, Ventura 7--Sam Monroy and Clint Harris each had two hits and an RBI, but it wasn’t enough for the Pirates in a WSC game at Ventura.
Ventura (21-16-1, 13-10) walked 12 batters, nine in the first four innings.
Canyons 5, Mission 4--Brian Shaw’s two-out, bases-loaded single in the 10th inning scored Justin Bunch with the winning run for the Cougars (17-24, 13-10) in a WSC South Division game.
The Cougars scored two runs in the ninth on a two-out, two-run home run by Silvio Paz to tie the score, 4-4, after the Free Spirit (12-27, 7-15) in conference play) scored twice in the top of the inning on a home run by Rene Rodriguez to break a 2-2 tie.
Bobby Cowan received no decision after an eight-inning stint, allowing two runs on eight hits and no walks, and striking out six.
Cerro Coso 9, Antelope Valley 7--Jeff Tepper had three hits--including a two-run home run--for the Marauders (17-16-1, 12-12) in a Foothill Conference setback.
Cerro Coso (21-18, 12-12) broke a 7-7 tie with two sacrifice flies in the eighth inning.
Oxnard 11, Cuesta 9--Art Bolen had two hits and two RBIs and the Condors rallied for a WSC victory at Cuesta.
Rene Sanchez picked up the victory in relief for Oxnard (22-17, 10-13), which scored six runs in the final two innings.
