Re “It’s Not All Black and White” (by Elaine Dutka, Feb. 19):
Bill Duke was asked “what a black guy knows about three Jewish women” when he was directing “The Cemetery Club.” Steven Spielberg was asked what he, a Jewish guy, knew about Southern black women when he was directing “The Color Purple.” Hollywood doesn’t just compartmentalize blacks, it compartmentalizes everyone--as does the moviegoing public.
