OXNARD : Woman Dies After Automobile Collision
An Oxnard woman died early Monday from injuries in a traffic accident at the corner of Rice Avenue and 5th Street in Oxnard, police said.
Evelyn Zilke, 73, died shortly after midnight at St. John’s Regional Medical Center from blood loss caused by a severed aortic artery, a county coroner’s spokesman said.
According to police, Zilke was fatally injured after a car driven by her husband, Fred Zilke, ran a red light on Rice Avenue and was struck from the side Sunday morning.
Salvador Narez, whose vehicle struck the Zilke car, was treated for minor injuries and released from the hospital. Fred Zilke’s injuries were also minor, police said.
Evelyn Zilke did not seem to be hurt at first. But she later complained of chest pain and was taken to St. John’s Medical Center.
