National Education Corp. Stake Bought: An investor group led by Tweedy, Browne Co. L.P. acquired a 5.51% stake in Irvine-based National Education Corp. The Tweedy Browne group bought 371,275 shares between Nov. 28 and Jan. 17 at prices ranging from $3.81 to $4.53 each, bringing its total to 1.62 million shares, according to a Schedule 13D filed Monday at the Securities and Exchange Commission. The shares were purchased as an investment, according to the filing. National Education trains people for industrial and vocational positions. It also retrains, cross-trains or upgrades employees’ skills in areas ranging from entry level to high-tech. The company is involved in educational publishing.
