Laidlaw Inc. Will Buy Mayflower’s Bus Business: North America’s largest school bus operator has agreed to buy most of Mayflower Group Inc., a school bus and public transit operator based in Indianapolis, for $157 million. Burlington, Canada-based Laidlaw said the all-cash deal excludes Mayflower’s moving and storage business, which is being sold to UniGroup Inc. Laidlaw, with 22,000 buses, said the acquisition will give it 6,500 additional buses and its public transit operations will be more than doubled in size.
